Jose Sanchez Dies, Raina Lopez Hurt in Hit-and-Run Accident in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 29, 2022) Jose Manuel Sanchez died in a hit-and-run two-car accident on Highway 99 near Palm Street.
 
According to authorities, the fatal hit-and-run happened around 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday. Upon responding, California Highway Patrol officers found a GMC Sierra on the northbound lanes of the highway. In the investigation, CHP learned that 43-year-old Sanchez was driving the GMC in the No. 3 northbound lane.
 
In an attempt to make a lane change, his car collided with an unknown vehicle, which left the scene shortly thereafter.
 
Due to the impact, the GMC struck the center median wall and continued out of control.
 
Responding paramedics transported Sanchez, of Wasco, to Kern Medical where he died from his injuries. His 21-year-old passenger, Raina Lopez, sustained moderate injuries in the crash.
 
At this time, authorities do not know if impairment played a factor. Although, if any witnesses know the whereabouts of the hit-and-run driver or the cause of this crash, please call the CHP Bakersfield area office at 661-396-6600.
