Coroner Identifies Jose Robledo as Dos Palos Man Killed in 5 Freeway Crash with Big Rig

 
MERCED COUNTY, CA (March 7, 2022) – Jose Robledo was killed in a traffic accident on 5 Freeway in Merced County on Thursday, February 24.
 
The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. just south of Highway 140. According to the California Highway Patrol, Robledo was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Passat north on the freeway at approximately 80-85 mph. He apparently changed lanes and attempted to slow down and stop while approaching a vehicle directly in front of the Volkswagen.
 
Robledo lost control of his car, which traveled onto the right shoulder of the road and rear-ended a 2019 International tractor pulling an enclosed trailer.
 
As a result of the crash, Robledo suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 23-year-old Dos Palos resident, according to the Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office.
 
Passengers inside the International tractor did not sustain any injuries.
 
This fatal crash remains under investigation.
