Jose Mendez-Alonzo Dies in Pedestrian Accident on West Main Street at Crows Landing Road

 
CROWS LANDING, CA (June 10, 2022) — A man died following a pedestrian accident in an area west of Turlock city limits on Wednesday, June 1.
 
Police identified the deceased as 38-year-old Jose Mendez-Alonzo of Crows Landing.
 
The collision was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 1:55 a.m. by the driver of the involved vehicle, 41-year-old Maiyra Rodriguez of Winton.
 
According to the CHP, Mendez-Alonzo was walking in the middle of West Main Street, near the intersection with Crows Landing Road. At the same time, Rodriguez approached eastbound in her 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser.
 
Rodriguez said she did not see Mendez-Alonzo walking in the roadway and struck him with her vehicle. She immediately pulled over and called 911.
 
An off-duty San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputy arrived to the scene and located Mendez-Alonzo in the roadway. The deputy started CPR before being relieved by CHP officers.
 
The CHP officers continued CPR for three minutes until paramedics arrived and pronounced Mendez-Alonzo deceased.
 
Rodriguez did not sustain any injuries in the collision. CHP evaluated her sobriety. However, police do not believe she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
 
The crash is still under investigation.
