Jose Melendrez Airlifted after Imperial Accident with Semi-Truck on Highway 111 at Harris Road

 
IMPERIAL, CA (August 17, 2022) – Police identified Jose Cardenas Melendrez as the victim who suffered serious injuries in an accident on Highway 111 on August 15.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at the intersection of Harris Road.
 
Based on reports, 65-year-old Melendrez was driving a small sedan south on the highway at the time of the crash. Due to unknown reasons, he veered onto the right shoulder and struck a parked semi-truck.
 
As a result, Melendrez sustained major injuries in the crash. Emergency crews transported him to Desert Regional Medical Center via REACH air ambulance. The driver of the truck was not hurt in the incident.
 
Impairment from drugs or alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this incident. As of now, the collision remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
