Jose Hureta Detained, Infant Hurt in Los Angeles Police Chase Crash
LOS ANGELES, CA (February 17, 2022) — Jose Hureta faces charges in Friday’s police chase accident in Los Angeles that left a 10-month-old with a fractured skull.
According to Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore, the incident happened around 11:20 p.m. After seeing a silver Jeep Wrangler drive erratically, Newton Division officers tried to perform a traffic stop. However, a brief chase began before 25-year-old Hureta crashed the Jeep into a flatbed truck.
Soon after, Hureta stopped the vehicle a short distance away and fled on foot, carrying a 10-month-old child.
Unaware that Hureta was holding a child, an officer ran after him and took him down on a nearby grassy lawn. Police officers arrested Hureta, finding narcotics and two loaded magazines from the vehicle.
Paramedics brought the infant to a hospital, who although appeared uninjured, suffered a fractured skull.
At this time, reports have not disclosed whether the child suffered the injury during the accident, the officer’s actions or another incident. However, an investigation into the crash should confirm these outstanding details.
To minimize the risks of a car accident, drive responsibly. Speeding, impaired driving and distracted driving all factor into the causes of most car accidents. Remember this the next time you decide to drive.
