Authorities Identify Driver Killed in Piru Broadside Crash on Highway 126

 
PIRU, CA (March 24, 2021) – Authorities named the driver who died in a broadside accident Monday morning in Piru.
 
The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 44-year-old Jose De Loa Huerta of Ivanhoe. Ivanhoe is a small town located in Tulare County, about five miles northeast of Visalia.
 
De Loa Huerta was driving a black Ford F-150 pickup truck westbound on Highway 126 around 5:20 a.m., March 15. For unknown reasons, he lost control of the truck and crossed the center median into eastbound lanes. A white Freightliner box truck heading eastbound then broadsided the Ford. Both vehicles continued a short distance and came to rest on the eastbound shoulder.
 
As a result of the collision, De Loa Huerta suffered multiple blunt force injuries and died at the scene.
 
The driver of the box truck, a 31-year-old Fillmore man, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
 
The accident took place as moderate rain fell and during the first commute since Daylight Saving Time. It likely involved speed and the wet roadway, authorities said. Further investigation is underway.
