Jose Cruz Jr. Injured, Ernesto Herrera Detained in Deadly DUI Crash on Highway 101 near Tefft Street

 
NIPOMO, CA (March 29, 2021) — Jose Cruz Jr. was injured in a fatal DUI accident on Highway 101 near Tefft Street Saturday night.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-car accident happened around 11:12 p.m. Per reports, 24-year-old Ernesto Herrera entered Highway 101 in the wrong direction. While the Santa Maria man drove south in the northbound lanes, his 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe collided with a 2019 Honda CR-V.
 
As the result, the Honda overturned onto its roof and ejected Cruz’s male passenger onto the northbound median. Soon after, paramedics transported the victim to Marian Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. Meanwhile, Cruz, of San Jose, and his female passenger suffered major injuries.
 
According to reports, Herrera tried leaving the scene following the crash but was caught shortly after.
