Jose Caratachea-Valencia Dies in Fresno Crash with Big Rig on Elm Avenue at North Avenue

 
FRESNO, CA (May 24, 2022) — Jose Caratachea-Valencia died in a crash with a semi-truck on Elm Avenue at North Avenue on Monday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred around 3:00 a.m. For unclear reasons, 52-year-old Caratachea-Valencia was unable to stop his 2010 Mercury in time as it traveled about 100 miles per hour.
 
Subsequently, the Mercury slammed into the side of a big rig trailer as the semi-truck driver pulled into a driveway.
 
Shortly after, officers and fire paramedics arrived at the scene to find a white vehicle lodged underneath the trailer. There, they found the Selma man with fatal injuries, as well.
 
At this time, officers believe Caratachea-Valencia might have been drinking before the accident. However, a coroner’s office will perform a toxicology test to confirm if DUI played a part.
