Bicyclist Jonathan Waters Dies after Struck by Vehicle on Shattuck Avenuein North Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (June 3, 2022) – Jonathan Waters was killed in a bicycle accident in North Oakland on Friday, May 27.
 
The accident happened just after 10:30 p.m. near Shattuck Avenue and 55th Street in the city’s Bushrod neighborhood. According to the Oakland Police Department, Waters was riding his bicycle when a vehicle struck him near the intersection.
 
When officers arrived, they found Waters suffering from severe injuries. Paramedics and Oakland Fire Department firefighters rushed him to a hospital, where he died the following morning around 7:40 a.m.
 
Waters was a 60-year-old Berkeley resident, according to the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau.
 
Police said the vehicle’s driver, identified only as an 18-year-old Alamo resident, stayed at the scene and cooperated.
 
It is unknown if alcohol or substances were collision factors. Further investigation is underway. Police asked anyone with information to call them at 510-777-8570.
