Expectant Father Dies after Struck by Vehicle on 5 Freeway in National City

 
NATIONAL CITY, CA (November 4, 2021) – Jonathan L. Pangilinan died in a pedestrian accident on 5 Freeway in National City Friday evening.
 
The accident happened around 8:45 p.m. on October 29, near the exit to Mile of Cars Way. According to the California Highway Patrol, Pangilinan was walking in and out of the freeway fast lane when a black Toyota Corolla hit him. The impact launched him through the air and landed back in the far-left freeway lane, where at least two other vehicles struck him.
 
As a result, Pangilinan suffered multiple blunt force injuries and died at the scene. He was 27 years old. He appeared to be homeless and lived in National City, according to the county’s medical examiner’s office.
 
Pangilinan’s fiancée is pregnant with the couple’s son.
 
An investigation into this fatality is underway.
