Traffic Accident Involving Logging Truck on Highway 299 in Trinity County Seriously Injures Two People
TRINITY COUNTY, CA (September 12, 2024) – Jolene Eye and Carmen Busbee were seriously injured in a traffic accident in Trinity County Wednesday morning on September 11.
The accident happened around 6:50 a.m. on Highway 299, just east of Fawn Lodge Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Danny Milholland was driving a 2011 Peterbilt logging truck westbound on the highway. At the same time, Jolene Eye was driving her 2017 Hyundai Sonata eastbound approaching Milholland’s vehicle.
Due to Milholland’s unsafe speed, the Peterbilt overturned into the eastbound lane, losing its load of logs. Eye steered her vehicle to the right in an attempt to avoid the falling logs but was unable to do so.
The logs struck the Hyundai, pushing it backward off the roadway, approximately twenty feet down the embankment to the south of Highway 299.
Eye and her passenger, Carmen Busbee, both suffered major injuries from the crash. Paramedics transported them to Mercy Medical Center in Redding for treatment.
Meanwhile, Miholland was unharmed.
The crash also caused major damage on both vehicles.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
Speeding increases the likelihood of a traffic accident. Thus, always maintain designated speeds. Do not ignore speed limits to avoid putting yourself and others in danger. Always choose to be a responsible driver.
