Jonathan Yip and John Queen Die in Moorpark Collision with Big Rig

 
MOORPARK, CA (November 19, 2021) — Two people died in a crash with a semi-truck on Grimes Canyon Road near Meadowglade Drive on Monday, November 15.
 
Just before 3:00 p.m., CHP and the Ventura County Fire Department arrived on Grimes Canyon Road at Meadowglade Drive. A two-door 2020 Toyota 86 sports car collided head on with a Peterbilt semi-truck that was pulling a dump trailer, according to CHP.
 
The driver of the sports car was believed to be driving above the speed limit. As a result, he lost control of his vehicle at a curve in the road. He overcorrected and his car drifted into the opposite lane, hitting the truck.
 
Both vehicles were on fire when first responders arrived, but fire crews put out the flames. Ventura County firefighters said the fire occurred after the crash and played no part in the deaths or injuries.
 
Two of the three people in the sports car — the driver, 23-year-old John Queen of Oxnard, and the front passenger, 23-year-old Jonathan Yip of Moorpark — were killed.
 
Officers helped remove the passenger in the backseat of the sports car, 59-year-old James Yip of Moorpark, and the driver of the truck, 61-year-old Raymond Gonzales of Los Angeles. After that, officials transported both to Los Robles Hospital for treatment. James Yip had major injuries while Gonzales had moderate injuries.
