John Havel Detained, Juan Salazar Hospitalized in DUI Crash on Highway 99W near Sonoma Avenue

 
RICHFIELD, CA (August 4, 2022) — John S. Havel from Springfield, Missouri faces charges in a DUI head-on accident on Highway 99W near Sonoma Avenue.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol Red Bluff office, the two-vehicle crash happened Sunday.
 
For possible DUI-related reasons, 75-year-old Havel allowed his 2003 Ford F-150 to veer off the northbound lane onto the gravel shoulder. Subsequently, the man redirected his vehicle back on the road yet into the path of a southbound 2004 Honda Accord.
 
The Honda driver, identified as 21-year-old Juan D. Salazar, was unable to avoid the imminent crash and collided with the passenger side of the pickup, sending the front end of the vehicle under the Ford.
 
Soon after, firefighter-paramedics responded to the scene and extricated Salazar from the vehicle. Both drivers suffered major injuries in the crash.
 
As paramedics brought Havel, whom officers later arrested on suspicion of DUI, to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff, paramedics airlifted Salazar to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
