Jim Maguire Killed in Accident on Pozo Road [Santa Margarita, CA]

Former Public Defender Dies after Colliding with Semi Truck on Pozo Road near Las Pilitas Road

 
SANTA MARGARITA, CA (November 29, 2021) – Jim Maguire died in a traffic accident on Pozo Road, late Tuesday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 5:45 p.m. on November 23, just east of Las Pilitas Road near Riconada Dairy Farm, owned by the victim.
 
According to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, Maguire was driving a GMC Sierra pickup truck on Pozo Road. At the same time, a semi-trailer truck was in the process of making a U-turn on the same road, where the trailer was blocking both lanes of travel.
 
Maguire did not see the trailer before the front of his truck collided with the rear of the trailer.
 
As a result, Maguire suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 76-year-old Santa Margarita resident. He was a longtime San Luis Obispo County public defender.
 
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
