Innocent Driver Jeeves Tangonan Dies after Short Pursuit Ends in Fiery Crash near The Grove

 
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 8, 2021) – 37-year-old Jeeves Tangonan was killed after a fleeing suspect crashed into his vehicle in the Fairfax District Tuesday, March 2.
 
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were reportedly pursuing a 28-year-old man who had assaulted a deputy during a routine traffic stop.
 
Deputies chased the driver to the intersection of Fairfax Avenue and 3rd Street. Around 10:30 p.m., the suspect crashed into a blue sedan, driven by Tangonan. The impact sent the second vehicle slamming into the side of a Citibank branch. The car was wedged between the wall of the building and a tree on the sidewalk.
 
Los Angeles Fire Department crews attempted to pull the innocent driver and attempted saving him, but he died at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, the suspect’s car caught fire. He was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital in unknown condition.
 
Family members said Tangonan was a chef at a West Hollywood hotel. He was driving home from work when the crash occurred.
 
The suspect faces number of charges including assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer.
