Passenger Dies after Car Crashes into Tree on 5 Freeway in San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 27, 2021) – Isabel Maraya Gallegos was killed in a car accident on 5 Freeway in San Diego early Sunday, September 12.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the 21-year-old victim was a front-seat passenger in a 2018 Honda Civic. The car was traveling northbound on the freeway at an unknown speed when it lost control and veered to the right. It then traveled down a nearby embankment and a struck a tree.
 
As a result, Gallegos suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office.
 
The driver’s condition was not immediately known.
 
At this time, it is unclear if speed, drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
