Isaac Vargas Killed, Austin Garcia Arrested in Car Accident on West Colton Avenue near West Redlands Boulevard

 
REDLANDS, CA (June 3, 2021) — Isaac Jacob Vargas of San Bernardino, died in a hit-and-run crash on West Colton Avenue on Sunday, May 30.
 
According to the Redlands Police Department, at around 2:30 a.m., 21-year-old Austin Jesse Garcia allegedly drove above the speed limit in a 2001 Honda Civic. Then he attempted to make a turn onto West Colton Avenue near the West Redlands Boulevard. His car struck a light pole and the impact killed Vargas, a 16-year-old passenger in his vehicle.
 
Garcia left the scene. Redlands police officers with a K-9 unit from the Claremont Police Department were not able to locate him.
 
Investigators later discovered him at St. Bernardine’s Hospital in San Bernardino. They found out that a man with injuries consistent with the crash was in the hospital.
 
Officers went to the hospital and tracked down Garcia. They arrested him without incident. Officers said he was on probation at the time.
 
Authorities held Garcia at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on $250,000 bail.
