Four-Vehicle Collision on 80 Freeway Causes Major Traffic Backup

OAKLAND, CA (September 27, 2021) — A multi-vehicle collision on the 80 Freeway early Friday morning resulted in injuries.

The California Highway Patrol reported that they received calls about the crash at around 4:50 a.m. Officers and emergency crews immediately rushed to the crash scene, which is at westbound 80 Freeway near Yerba Buena.

Upon arrival, the responders found that four vehicles collided in the area, including a bus. There were people injured, as per officials, but did not elaborate further. Additionally, the names of the people involved were not immediately available.

As a result of the crash, there were major traffic delays going into San Francisco, through the MacArthur Maze beyond Ashby Avenue. The CHP issued a SigAlert to advise commuters of the multi-vehicle collision and to seek alternative routes due to the massive backup at the Bay Bridge toll plaza. All lanes reopened at about 7:25 a.m.

Due to their nature and complexity, highways and freeways often become the scenes of an accident. So, when driving through one, stay alert and be vigilant of the condition of the road. Drive within the prescribed speed limit and always put your seat belts on. Additionally, never drink and drive, and take proper breaks after every couple of hours of continuous driving.
