19-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run LAPD Sergeant in Tustin
TUSTIN, CA (February 5, 2025) – Imanol Salvador Gonzalez was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Tustin early Saturday morning on February 1.
The fatal crash happened around 3:57 a.m. near Nisson Road and Del Amo Avenue. According to the Tustin Police Department, Gonzalez was walking in the area when a vehicle struck him.
After the crash, the vehicle took off without stopping.
When officers arrived, they found the 19-year-old victim down on the road with fatal injuries. They pronounced him dead at the scene.
Authorities found debris from a vehicle and identified it as a black 2021 Chevy Silverado crew cab pickup.
They later arrested the truck’s registered owner, identified as 40-year-old Carlos Coronel of Buena Park and a Los Angeles police sergeant.
Coronel was booked into the Orange County Jail on Sunday, according to court records. He was in court Tuesday afternoon.
Coronel received a DUI charge over a decade ago, where he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in 2011.
He joined the LAPD in 2008.
Further investigation is underway.
