Motorcyclist Hunter Dorsey Injured after Fleeing Police in Redding
REDDING, CA (April 1, 2021) – Authorities identified 24-year-old Hunter Dorsey of Redding as the fleeing motorcyclist injured in an accident on Eureka Way, Thursday afternoon.
According to the Redding Police Department, the incident happened at about 1:37 p.m. An officer attempted to stop a speeding Kawasaki motorcycle that did not have a visible license plate. However, the rider, Dorsey, sped away.
Due to public safety, the officer did not pursue Dorsey.
A short time later, the motorcyclist drove through a red light at the intersection of Eureka Way and Pioneer Drive. There, Dorsey slammed into a gold Toyota Prius.
Emergency responders transported Dorsey to Mercy Medical with major injuries. Meanwhile, the Toyota driver, identified as Crystal Wears of Redding, was also taken to Mercy Medical with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators later determined that Dorsey was driving on a suspended license. The Shasta County District Attorney’s Office will file a complaint against Dorsey for reckless evasion and driving on a suspended license.
When pulled over, slow down and do not attempt to flee the scene. Carefully choose where you stop and talk to the officer in a calm manner. Patiently wait for further instructions and cooperate with the authorities.
