72-Year-Old Man Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in San Jose Dies Weeks Later

 
SAN JOSE, CA (April 19, 2023) – Hung Viet Tran died Thursday last week after a hit-and-run crash in San Jose on March 22.
 
The fatal crash happened around 6:27 p.m. on East Santa Clara Street at South 10th Street. According to the San Jose Police Department, a silver 1999 Toyota sedan, later recovered as a stolen vehicle, ran a red light while traveling eastbound on East Santa Clara Street. It then struck Tran who was walking in a marked crosswalk at the intersection.
 
After striking Tran, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene without rendering aid.
 
First responders transported Tran to a hospital, where he died Thursday on April 13. He was 72 years old from San Jose, according to the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner.
 
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
 
At this time, police are still investigating and searching for the hit-and-run suspect.
