Man Riding Horse Suffers Critical Injuries after Car Struck Animal near Wells and Kent Avenues

 
RIVERSIDE, CA (May 17, 2022) – A horseback rider suffered critical injuries after a car struck the animal near Wells Avenue and Kent Avenue in Riverside on Friday evening, May 6.
 
The accident happened around 9:00 p.m., according to the Riverside Police Department. Police said a 44-year-old woman was driving a 1999 GMC Yukon eastbound on Wells Avenue when the horse and its rider walked in front of her SUV.
 
The woman hit the animal, launching the male rider off the horse. Responding paramedics rushed the man to a hospital in critical condition.
 
The horse only sustained minor injuries, according to police.
 
Meanwhile, the driver remained on scene and cooperated with police. She was unharmed.
 
Police said it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident. They asked anyone with further information to contact the Riverside Police Department Traffic Detective Ryan Mchugh at 951-826-8720.
