Senior Dies after Struck by Suspected Intoxicated Driver in Murrieta

 
MURRIETA, CA (March 28, 2022) – Gloria Henry was killed in a DUI hit-and-run crash on Clinton Keith Road in Murrieta on Wednesday morning.
 
The accident happened around 8:10 a.m. on March 23 just east of Via Mariposa. According to the Murrieta Police Department, the 71-year-old victim was walking along the sidewalk on the north side of Clinton Keith Road when a full-size pickup truck in westbound lanes approached at an undetermined speed. It then drove onto the sidewalk and struck Henry.
 
After striking the victim, the driver fled the scene without rendering aid.
 
Paramedics arrived soon after and rushed Henry to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where she died less than an hour later.
 
Patrol officers searched the area and located the hit-and-run suspect, identified as 57-year-old Rodney Wayne Phillips of Hemet. They arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI and hit-and-run resulting in death.
 
Officers booked Phillips into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta at $75,000 bail.
