Giovanni Leon Killed after Car Crashes into Tree on West Road [Redwood Valley, CA]

18-Year-Old Giovanni Leon Identified as Driver Killed in Accident on West Road near Zahadoom Way

 
REDWOOD VALLEY, CA (October 21, 2021) – Authorities identified 18-year-old Giovanni Artenio Leon of Ukiah as the driver killed in an accident on West Road, late Monday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on October 18, at about 11:00 p.m. For reasons still under investigation, a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee lost control and slammed into a tree near Zahadoom Way.
 
The impact of the collision caused the Jeep to catch fire. A passing motorist stopped to help a 21-year-old passenger get out of the vehicle. However, they were not able to help Leon due to the intensifying flames.
 
The Redwood Valley-Calpella Volunteer Fire Department arrived to extinguish the fire. Emergency crews pronounced Leon dead at the scene.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
