Gina Castaneda Killed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (May 13, 2022) — A woman died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Fairfax Road at Niles Street on Friday, May 6.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 52-year-old Gina Rebecca Castaneda of Bakersfield.
According to reports, the accident happened around 8:30 p.m. Under unclear circumstances, a big rig struck Castaneda while she crossed at the intersection of Niles Street and Fairfax Road. Police believe the driver tried making a right turn onto Niles Street from eastbound Fairfax Road.
Soon after, paramedics and authorities responded. However, Castaneda was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck left the scene of the accident without stopping or rendering aid.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
At this time, the whereabouts of the driver are unknown. Therefore, any witnesses with more information should contact the California Highway Patrol.
