Goleta DUI Crash Leaves Two People Dead and One Injured

 
GOLETA, CA (October 28, 2021) – Gilberto Arteaga-Gutierrez and Silvia Velasco died in a DUI crash in Goleta Tuesday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened around 7:30 p.m. on October 26, near the 5500 block of Cathedral Oaks Road and Camino Cascada.
 
According to the Goleta Police Department, a 31-year-old man was driving a 2016 Toyota 4-Runner eastbound on Cathedral Oaks at high speeds when he rear-ended a 2002 Ford Mustang that was also heading eastbound. As a result, the impact caused the Ford to spun and struck two parked vehicles.
 
As a result, both Arteaga-Gutierrez and Velasco died at the scene.
 
Arteaga-Gutierrez, a 40-year-old Santa Barbara resident, was the driver of the Ford. Velasco, a 45-year-old Lompoc resident, was his passenger.
 
Meanwhile, emergency crews rescued a dog trapped in one of the cars. In addition, they took one person to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
 
Police arrested the driver of the Toyota on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. After that, they booked him into Santa Barbara County Jail for murder and DUI charges. His bail was set at $2 million.
