Suspected DUI Crash in Chinese Camp Kills Geno Gurich and Sends 3 to Hospital
CHINESE CAMP, CA (February 28, 2022) – Geno J. Gurich was killed in a suspected DUI accident on Highway 120 in the Chinese Camp area on Sunday night.
The accident happened around 6:45 p.m. on February 26, just east of Perri Cone Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Gurich was driving a 2004 Honda Civic eastbound on the highway at a high rate of speed. He then crossed over the double-yellow lines into oncoming traffic.
Gurich then collided head-on into a 2021 Mazda CX-5 in the opposite direction. The Mazda was driven by 34-year-old Charmin J. Rogers with passengers, 41-year-old Beverley Jenkins and three children, a 9-year-old boy and two females ages 11 and 12, all from Oakland.
As a result of the crash, Gurich suffered severe injuries. Paramedics rushed him to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, where he died Tuesday. He was a 32-year-old Copperopolis resident.
Meanwhile, Jenkins and two of the children were taken via ambulance to a local hospital. The 12-year-old female was later flown to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for further treatment.
CHP officials suspect alcohol as a contributing factor.
We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Geno Gurich.
