EL CAJON, CA (August 25, 2021) – One person died while two others sustained injuries in a rollover accident early Saturday morning, August 21.

San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified 16-year-old Grossmont High School student Gady Cruz.

The accident happened around 2:00 a.m. at the intersection of Navajo Road and Fletcher Parkway. According to the El Cajon Police Department, a black 2018 Honda Civic traveled eastbound on Navajo Road toward Fletcher Parkway at a high rate of speed. However, the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a curb near the intersection. After that, the vehicle hit another curb and traveled into a traffic light pole.

According to reports, Cruz was the driver of the Civic. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three passengers in the Civic suffered serious injuries, according to El Cajon Police. However, the passengers’ conditions are unknown. Two of the passengers are 11th graders at Grossmont High School. The third passenger is not a student in the district, officials said.
