Pedestrian Francisco Garcia Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver Juan Ramirez in Boyle Heights

 
BOYLE HEIGHTS, CA (April 13, 2022) – A male pedestrian died in a hit-and-run accident on Whittier Boulevard and Esperanza Street in Boyle Heights on April 2.
 
According to a police department statement, a vehicle struck 58-year-old Francisco Rosas Garcia just after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday.
 
The Los Angeles Police Department stated that Garcia was walking northbound in the crosswalk on Esperanza Street. Then, he was struck by a westbound Ford Fusion that was driven from the scene without rendering aid.
 
Arriving paramedics pronounced Garcia dead at the scene.
 
23-year-old Juan Francisco Ramirez turned himself in at the Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck Community Police Station about 9:55 p.m. on Monday. He admitted to being the driver who struck Garcia and left the scene.
 
Police arrested Ramirez on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. As a result, he is held on $50,000 bail. In addition, police recovered and impounded the Ford Fusion involved in the collision as evidence.
