NEVADA CITY, CA (November 22, 2021) – Four people died in a wrong-way accident on 80 Freeway in Nevada City, early Saturday morning.

The fatal accident happened just before 4:45 a.m. on November 20, near Eagles Lake Road near Yuba Pass and Crystal Lake. According to the California Highway Patrol, a witness called 911 to report a wrong-way driver in a Jeep. Minutes later, the wrong-way driver then collided into two other vehicles.

The impact killed a family of four, who were not in the Jeep. The victims were two adults and two children, who were both younger than 10 years old.

A baby held in the arms of an adult is the only survivor from that vehicle.

Paramedics airlifted the baby to a hospital in Nevada.

Meanwhile, the wrong-way driver was also injured.

CHP officers believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. However, an investigation is ongoing.
