Only cross at designated railroad crossings marked by a sign, lights, or a gate. Never rush across as trains may be closer and faster than you think. Patiently wait for the trains to pass, the lights to stop flashing, and the gates to lift before crossing. Also, do not use your cell phone and remove your headphones to avoid distraction.
