UPDATE: Four Family Members Killed in Wrong-Way Car Accident, Michael Kelley Arrested [Nevada City, CA]

NEVADA CITY, CA (November 30, 2021) – Four people died in a wrong-way accident on 80 Freeway in Nevada City on Saturday, November 20.
 
The fatal accident happened just before 4:45 a.m. at Eagles Lake Road near Yuba Pass and Crystal Lake. According to the California Highway Patrol, a witness called 911 to report a wrong-way driver in a Jeep. Minutes later, the wrong-way driver collided into two other vehicles.
 
The impact killed four family members in one of the cars the wrong-way driver hit. Brittney Montano and Antonio Montano, both 29 of Sacramento, died along with their 9-year-old daughter Marianna Montano and 5-year-old son Antonio Montano Jr., the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office announced.
 
The North Highlands couple’s third child, 4-year-old Julian, was hospitalized following the crash. However, he is now home with his aunt and uncle.
 
The family has created a GoFundMe to raise funds for funeral services.
 
32-year-old Michael Scott Kelley of Antelope is facing four murder charges. In addition, he faces four gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated charges, according to the Nevada County District Attorney’s Office. Kelley is facing murder charges because he was on probation for a previous DUI at the time of the crash. However, Kelley remains hospitalized in Nevada.

 
The driver of the third car involved in the crash suffered moderate injuries, CHP has said.
