OC Coroner Identifies Bicyclist Killed in Newport Beach DUI Crash

 
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (April 6, 2021) – The name of an 80-year-old bicyclist who was struck and killed by a DUI driver in Newport Beach Sunday last week has been released.
 
He was Ernest Adams of Newport Beach, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.
 
The accident happened around 3:15 p.m. on March 28, at 16th Street and Irvine Avenue. Adams was riding his bike near Newport Harbor High School when he collided with a vehicle, driven by 20-year-old Alexis Garcialopez of Norwalk.
 
The impact caused Adams major injuries. Paramedics rushed him to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he died at 1:42 a.m. on March 29.
 
Police later arrested Garcialopez for causing bodily injury while driving under the influence.
 
The death was being investigated by Newport Beach police.
