Erick Gonzalez-Vasquez Dies after Struck by Multiple Hit-and-Run Drivers while Crossing 580 Freeway in San Rafael

 
SAN RAFAEL, CA (February 22, 2022) – Erick Omar Gonzalez-Vasquez was killed in a hit-and-run crash on 580 Freeway in San Rafael, late Saturday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened around 11:44 p.m. on February 19 near the approach to the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. The CHP said they received a report of a person lying in the roadway.
 
When officers arrived at the site, they found the victim suffering from fatal injuries. They pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
Gonzalez-Vasquez was a 21-year-old Sunnyvale resident, according to the Marin County Coroner.
 
Officers believe that a westbound 2005 Nissan Murano hit the concrete center barrier. It then spun out and ended up on the freeway, facing in the wrong direction.
 
Gonzalez-Vasquez, who was either a driver or passenger in the Murano, crossed the freeway after the crash and was struck by a several vehicles heading toward Richmond.
 
The drivers of the vehicles who struck the victim did not stop. They remain at large.
 
At this time, an investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
