Eric Buchanan Sr. Killed, Juan Gomez Uninjured in Car Crash on Sierra Highway near Avenue D
LANCASTER, CA (March 4, 2021) — Eric Buchanan Sr. was killed, and Juan Gomez avoided harm in Monday’s car accident on Sierra Highway near Avenue D.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened around 9:36 p.m. For reasons that demand further investigations, Buchanan allowed his southbound vehicle to veer onto the dirt shoulder. Subsequently, the 55-year-old veered left and traveled from the southbound lane to the northbound lane at about 55 miles per hour. There, Buchanan’s 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo collided with a northbound Freightliner tractor-trailer.
According to the CHP, Gomez, of Mexicali, was unable to avoid the Monte Carlo at the time.
As a result of the accident, Buchanan, of Lancaster, died moments later. Meanwhile, Gomez avoided injury and stayed at the scene for police investigations.
At this time, police believe alcohol likely played a role in this accident. However, if anyone has more information, please call the CHP Antelope Valley Area office at 661-948-8541.
