Coroner Identifies Elisha Gray Killed in Oakland Hit-and-Run Crash

 
OAKLAND, CA (August 31, 2021)Elisha Gray was killed in a hit-and-run crash Friday morning in Oakland.
 
The fatal crash happened around 5:10 a.m. on August 27, in the 200 block of Market Street. Oakland police said evidence found at the scene indicates that a big rig struck the victim. The driver failed to stop after the crash.
 
First responders found Gray lying in the northbound lane of Market Street with major injuries.
 
Despite life-saving efforts, Gray died at the scene. He was a 29-year-old Alameda resident, the coroner’s office said.
 
Police are trying to determine if the truck may have just left a nearby Port of Oakland terminal.
 
At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol was a factor. Further investigation is underway.
 
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the hit-and-run suspect. They urged witnesses to call them at 510-777-8570.
