Man Hurt, Suspect Arrested in Hit-and-Run Crash on Highland Avenue near 23rd Street

 
NATIONAL CITY, CA (July 16, 2021) — An elderly man suffered injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Highland Avenue on Sunday, July 9.
 
According to reports, the incident happened near 23rd Street, where a southbound SUV traveled at high speed on Highland Avenue. The SUV was followed by the elderly man’s truck.
 
The crash sent the victim’s vehicle into a parked Toyota truck then it overturned.
 
Witnesses rushed to help the victim. They extricated him out of the wreckage. Responders brought him to a local hospital for unspecified injuries.
 
Meanwhile, the SUV fled to Highland, but a witness pursued the vehicle onto the freeway.
 
National City officers notified CHP and Chula Vista police about the hunt and the route of the vehicle. Then officers at Main Street and W. Frontage Road with the drone saw the suspect.
 
They discovered his damaged Chevy Traverse south on 5 Freeway at high speed. Reports said the suspect was out of Main Street and had fallen a second time when Chula Vista officers arrested him.
