Eight People Hurt after Three-Car Crash on East Cypress Road near Bethel Island Road
OAKLEY, CA (January 31, 2022) — Eight people suffered injuries in a three-car crash on East Cypress Road on Saturday, January 29.
According to the police, the incident occurred west of Bethel Island Road in Oakley at around 9:45 a.m.
A white Nissan Altima moved eastbound on East Cypress Road in the westbound direction. Then it crashed with a red Dodge Durango and a gray Chevy Tahoe. The impact sent all three cars off the roadway, said Officer Soares of the Oakley Police Department.
Robert Ruddick, an East Contra Costa Fire Protection District captain, said medics airlifted one victim to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Paramedics also rushed seven other people to various local hospitals by ambulance.
Officials believe that speed is a factor in the crash, based on the amount of damage to the cars. It was not immediately determined if drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident.
Authorities temporarily closed East Cypress Road.
