Dwight May Strikes, Hospitalizes Officer on 5 Freeway near Loma Vista Drive

 
REDDING, CA (August 5, 2022)Dwight May struck and injured an officer on the 5 Freeway near Loma Vista Drive early Thursday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 12:45 a.m. Thursday. The incident first happened when a California Highway Patrol officer pulled over to tend to an initial crash.
 
As the officer exited his Dodge Charger to block the No. 3 lane for the vehicle in the road, an oncoming Ford Ranger driven by 20-year-old May veered out of control and struck the patrol car, grazing the officer, as well.
 
As a result of the accident, the unidentified officer suffered minor injuries.
 
Following the accident, May, of Redding, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police investigators who did not believe alcohol played a role.
