High-Speed Accident on San Pablo Avenue Kills 24-Year-Old Richmond Man

SAN PABLO, CA (February 23, 2021) – A man driving a stolen vehicle died in a high-speed accident on San Pablo Avenue Tuesday morning.

Police said the pursuit began around 8:00 a.m., February 16 in the 14500 block of San Pablo Avenue. Officers tried to pull over the stolen 1993 Dodge Intrepid, but the driver sped away.

Police said officers canceled the pursuit because of unsafe reckless driving by the Dodge’s driver.

Shortly after, the stolen Dodge collided with a 2004 Toyota Matrix traveling southbound on San Pablo Avenue just north of the Richmond Parkway. Following the impact of the collision, the stolen car was split into two.

Officers attempted saving the driver of the stolen vehicle, but he died at the scene. They only described him as a 25-year-old Richmond man.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 34-year-old Hayward resident, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital.

An investigation is underway. Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to call the San Pablo Police Department at 510-215-3150.
