Big Rig Collides with Tractor Trailer on Highway 33 in Kern County Pinning and Badly Injuring Driver

KERN COUNTY, CA (January 14, 2023) – A driver was seriously injured in a big rig accident on Highway 33 in the Blackwells Corner of Kern County early Tuesday morning.

The accident happened around 1:55 a.m. on January 10, near Highway 46. According to the CHP, a box truck collided with the rear of a tractor trailer stuck in the mud on a flooded portion of Highway 33.

Kern County firefighters responded and found the crushed cab of the box truck, with the driver still pinned inside. They extricated the driver by using heavy equipment to winch the wrecked trucks apart and free the victim.

Paramedics then transported the driver to Kern Medical with major injuries.

The cause of the crash and factors involved remain under investigation.

Before driving a big rig, make sure you are well-rested. Do not drive fatigued. It is much more difficult to stay alert on the road when one is feeling drowsy. Pull over to take naps if needed. Also, keeping distractions to a minimum is key to not causing an accident.
