Driver Fatally Injured in Truck and Tractor-Trailer Collision on 60 Freeway near 15 Freeway

EASTVALE, CA (October 21, 2021) — A driver died in a box truck accident on 60 Freeway on Tuesday, October 19.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 12:45 p.m. in the No. 3 lane of the westbound 60 Freeway. Police stated it happened between Milliken Avenue and the 15 Freeway interchange.

Officer Juan Quintero said that the victim drove at freeway speeds when traffic ahead of him slowed.

For reasons still unknown, the driver of the box truck was unable to stop his vehicle or slow down safely. The front of the box truck crashed with the rear of the semi-trailer.

The force of the incident resulted in fatal injuries to the driver, who was the only occupant of the box truck.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.

CHP officers closed four of five lanes of the freeway because of the collision and spilled fuel from the 25-foot-long box truck. They also closed the northbound 15 Freeway transition to the 60.

Officials issued a SigAlert at around 1 p.m. due to the traffic jam. They reopened all lanes by 4:20 p.m.
