Driver Dead After Train Crashes Into Car on Highway 43 in Shafter

 
SHAFTER, CA (May 31, 2022) — A driver died after a train hit a car on Highway 43 near Cherry Avenue on Friday evening.
 
For unknown reasons, an Amtrak train crashed into a pickup truck, possibly near Cherry Avenue and Highway 43. Subsequently, the train dragged the pickup truck a half-mile to the Shafter Cemetery before it came to a stop.
 
Shortly after, Shafter police officers arrived at the scene and found the deceased driver and three injured train passengers with minor injuries.
 
A bus arrived at the scene moments later to transport stranded passengers to their destination.
 
At this time, authorities have not disclosed the primary cause of the crash. However, an ongoing investigation should confirm any outstanding details.
