GUSTINE, CA (November 29, 2021) — A driver died in a rollover crash on the 5 Freeway near Cottonwood Road on Thanksgiving day.
 
According to reports, the fatal two-vehicle crash happened around 7:00 p.m. For unknown reasons, a driver in a Toyota Camry was traveling at an alarming rate, weaving in and out of traffic. Subsequently, the driver tried using a dirt median road to pass up a Chevy Traverse. However, the Toyota Camry clipped the Chevy, traveled down an embankment and overturned.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the vehicle crashed into a Caltrans fence before coming to a stop.
 
Not long after, police confirmed the Toyota driver deceased at the scene. Fortunately, no one inside the Chevy sustained any injuries.
 
At this time, investigators have not confirmed if DUI played a role, although they uncovered open containers of alcohol at the same. If anyone has additional information on this rollover crash, please contact the authorities.
