Early Morning Rollover Accident on Highway 99 in Merced County Throws Driver onto the Roadway, Four Other Cars Fatally Struck Him

MERCED COUNTY, CA (October 12, 2021) – A driver died in a rollover accident on Highway 99 early Sunday morning.
 
The accident happened around 1:25 am on October 10, just north of Shanks Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim was driving a Dodge Ram southbound on the highway when he veered across the center median into the northbound lanes.
 
The pickup truck overturned and the driver was thrown from the vehicle. While lying in the roadway, four oncoming cars struck the man.
 
All four motorists pulled over and called 911.
 
Paramedics arrived soon after and pronounced the driver dead at the scene. The victim was not yet identified.
 
It is unclear at this time if drugs or alcohol was a factor. Further investigation is underway.
