Late Evening Rollover Accident on 8 Freeway in Midway District Leaves Driver Dead

 
MIDWAY DISTRICT, CA (March 28, 2021) – A driver was killed late Thursday evening after a rollover accident on 8 Freeway in Midway District.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened shortly before midnight, March 25. A vehicle was heading in an unknown direction on 8 Freeway to southbound 5 Freeway when it lost control on the rain-slicked road.
 
The vehicle continued off the side of the ramp and crashed into a bridge column. It hit a concrete pylon supporting the raised transition ramp before falling the ground below, where it landed on its roof.
 
The unidentified driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The passenger was taken to UCSD Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries.
 
CHP investigators are still working to determine an official cause for the crash and factors involved.
