Driver Killed in Head-On Accident on Borrego Salton Sea Way near Henderson Canyon Road [Borrego Springs, CA]

Head-On Crash with Freighliner on Borrego Salton Sea Way Kills Driver and Injures Passenger

 
BORREGO SPRINGS, CA (May 10, 2022) – A driver died in a head-on accident on Borrego Salton Sea Way east of Borrego Springs on Friday morning.
 
The accident happened around 11:35 a.m. on May 6 just east of Henderson Canyon Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Freightliner was heading west on the road when it crossed over the solid double yellow lines. It then entered into the eastbound lanes and collided head-on into an eastbound GMC pickup truck.
 
As a result, the unidentified driver of the pickup died at the scene. His passenger, a 57-year-old Indio man, suffered moderate injuries and was airlifted to an Escondido hospital.
 
Meanwhile, the 55-year-old male driver of the Freightliner from Cherry Valley was not injured.
 
All three people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.
 
Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
