Driver Dies in Hayfork Accident with Tree on Highway 3

HAYFORK, CA (September 27, 2021) — A driver died in a crash with a tree on Highway 3 near Hayfork Dump Road Friday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident happened around 6:30 p.m. For unclear reasons, a driver operating a white 2014 Subaru Impreza lost control of the vehicle. Subsequently, the Subaru left the northbound roadway and crashed into a tree.

Due to the nature of the crash, the Subaru sustained significant intrusion into the passenger compartment. Because neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a seat belt, both suffered significant injuries. As a result, the driver died at the scene.

Following the accident, paramedics brought the passenger to a hospital for treatment. At this time, investigators have much to investigate. However, they do believe alcohol may have played a factor in the accident.

If anyone has more information on this crash, please call Officer T. Barto at the CHP Trinity River Area office at (530) 623-3832.
