Truck Driver Hurt in Big Rig Accident on Highway 99 near North Avenue
FRESNO, CA (July 26, 2021) — A truck driver sustained injuries in an accident on Highway 99 near North Avenue in Fresno early Thursday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened past 2 a.m. Initial reports indicated that a semi-truck hauling pastries was merging onto the highway when it hit a green pickup. The latter has a landscaping trailer and was parked on the right shoulder of the road.
The driver of the semi sustained minor injuries but it was not clear whether they were transported to a hospital. The pastries spilled across the roadway.
Meanwhile, there were no details available if the pickup had any occupants at the time of the crash. Officials, however, reported that no one else had any injuries.
Meantime, northbound Highway 99 remained closed while crews worked to clear the roadway. All lanes reopened after several hours.
Trucks, buses, and other large vehicles are harder to maneuver, have more blind spots, and take a longer time to decelerate. Drivers need to be extra vigilant and observe safety at all times. Avoid distractions, know your blind spots, and keep a safe braking distance. Furthermore, buckle up for safety, always observe the speed limit, and be aware of dangerous tailgaters.
