Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested after Crashing Head-On into Tree on Highway 94 in San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 4, 2022) – A man was arrested following a hit-and-run collision on Highway 94 on Saturday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on July 2 at about 5:45 a.m. The driver of a Mercedes reportedly fell asleep and slammed into the center divider wall.
 
The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to go across all lanes of traffic before crashing into a tree on the right shoulder.
 
As per reports, the driver of the Mercedes fled the scene on foot. The passenger also attempted to run but fell due to a leg injury unrelated to the crash.
 
A short time later, authorities located and arrested the driver. Investigators confirmed that the vehicle was owned by the passenger. Also, both men reportedly have suspended licenses.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
